About Our
Organization

African Social Development Focus (ASDEF) is a non-profit and non-political charity organization in East Africa that advocates for the rights of minorities and marginalized communities and aims to improve their welfare through targeted support/interventions. ASDEF focuses on addressing deep-rooted inequalities and injustice against minorities and marginalized groups across the social, economic, political, and environmental spheres. The organization currently operates in Somalia and Kenya but has plans to extend its services to the minorities and marginalized communities in Ethiopia soon.

The organization actively works to combat exclusion and discrimination in society based on social identities such as ethnicity, disability, gender, language, age, and race. Through advocacy, capacity-building, research, and collaborative partnerships, we aim to create conditions that

Research

ASDEF’s approach is rooted in research and data-driven strategies. By conducting research and collecting data, the organization can gain insights into the specific challenges faced by marginalized communities in Kenya and Somalia. This knowledge enables ASDEF to develop evidence-based interventions that address the unique needs and circumstances of these communities, leading to more effective and impactful programs.

Access to Justice

ASDEF recognizes the critical importance of access to justice and legal services for minorities and marginalized communities. One of the challenges faced by minorities and marginalized groups is the lack of voice, recognition, and capacity for active participation. It recognizes that individuals from marginalized groups often face barriers in accessing justice, which can perpetuate discrimination and exclusion. By advocating for equal access to justice, ASDEF aims to ensure that everyone, regardless of their social status or background, can seek legal remedies and have their rights protected.

Supporting Women and Children

I am deeply grateful for ASDEF’s commitment to women and children in Somalia. Their vocational training programs have given us the skills to generate income and support our families. ASDEF has restored our hope and given us the tools to improve our lives and contribute positively to society. They don’t just offer aid—they empower us to create our own paths to success.
